My Nail Journey Part 1 - Water Marble

Water marble nails…where do I even begin? Water marble nails have been the bane of my nail painting life. I tried so many times and every.single.time it went wrong. I tried different colours, different polish brands, different water temperatures but no matter what I did the results were patchy and average at best. Then one day…BAM… I did it and it worked. Perfect water marble nails. The only thing I did different was do it in a plastic cup, rather than a glass one. But it worked perfectly. And since then I have been able to do it successfully two more times – once on myself and once on my sister-in-law. What changed? I literally couldn’t tell you, but I’m complaining! Anyway, here is my wate rmarble journey. Please excuse the exceedingly shoddy camera work on the earlier photos :-)

  The Failed attempts:

1. Only one finger worked!

2. A weird and very spead out blue

4. Hot Mess!

5. This one worked the best but stll looks like a random pattern.
And then...:

Where did that come from?!

I didn't want to try my luck so I only did two fingers.

Water Marble Nails OPI Nail Art
Second Succesful attempt so I did all my fingers.

The only downide was gouging my ring finger.

So there you have it! If I am able to replicate a successful water marble again I will attempt to take some progress / tutorial photos. Any question, please ask in the comments! If you guys liked this then I will do Part 2, 3, 4 etc on things like stamping, gradients, nail art.

Job Interview Nails

Hi guys!

Just a quick one. I had a job interview today. I always freak out about my nails prior to job interviews – Should I go really safe and wear a nude? Should I show my personality? Should I try and blend both? Should I paint my interviewers face and the company logo across my fingers?! (totally, joking with that last one…kind of).

Anyway, so I thought I would share what I went with this time  - Trout Pout by Butter London. I decided on no nail art because I thought it would look more professional. However, this shade is a gorgeous bright coral so still had a little bit of ‘me’ about it without being too in your face. What do you think?

Golden Triangles

What to call this mani?! At the risk of being boring I just went with ‘Golden Triangles’ because, well, that’s what it is. These nails were inspired by a prompt I saw on Instagram for ‘flakies’. Now I only own one proper flakie…an Essie polish. It’s super pretty but doesn’t show up in photos at all so I created a little bit and used the only other flakie-ish polish I own – OPI Pure.  I’ve been in love with these gold polishes (yes, real gold!!!) ever since I saw them.  OPI Pure is totally stunning and looks 10x better in person.  I originally just planned to paint the gold flakes on in a triangle shape. It ended up looking like this:

Love.Angle.Music.Baby, Live.Love.Carnival, Pure

However, I wanted the triangle to look a little more defined so I just painted around it with gold polish so it popped. I did this using a handmade nail brush, aka an old eyeliner brush. Here’s the finished look:

Here’s everything this look requires (minus the painting brush as I forgot about it!):

The polishes I used were all OPI:

Base - Live.Love.Carnival
Gold Flakes – Pure
Gold lining – Love.Angle.Music.Baby (one of my all-time favourites!)
Plus Essie Good to Go for my top coat.

I got the vinyls to outline the triangles from nailvinyls.com
